Sigrand SHDSL modems are distinguished by the unique high-speed interface. The modems have been entering the market first, setting up records. See yourself: in 2003 Sigrand SHDSL modems were the first to reach the rate of 4.6 Mbit/s over single pair. In 2005 the maximum rate went up to 6 Mbit/s over single pair of wires, while the majority of business rivals could make it only to 4.6 Mbit/s using two pairs. In equal conditions, working on one-pair lines, the rival modems were able to reach only 2.3 Mbit/s. By introducing SHDSL.bis modems in the end of 2005 the manufacturers only got to 5.7 Mbit/s. In 2007 the rate of SG-17R modems was already 14 Mbit/s, and today we are successfully testing SG-17B SHDSL modem that scores 15296 Mbit/s over single pair.

SG-16 and SG-17 may be used to increase the efficiency of the existing communication lines many times without any extra costs for laying or leasing cable networks. The SG-16 family includes 5 modem types and 4 multiplexer types. All models are designed either as desktop or as rack-mountable 19” 1RU devices.

The SG-17 family includes rack-mountable 1RU SG-17 universal multifunction platform. The modular SG-17R platform is manufactured either without built-in SHDSL interfaces, or with several SHDSL interfaces. This platform serves the base for modems, interface converters, multiplexers, routers, VoIP gateways, etc. The number and combination of system interfaces is determined by extension modules, which are supplied separately and may be installed by the users if necessary.

The set of SHDSL equipment for SG-17 family includes SG-17E regenerators for two- and four-wire lines with remote feed support, which are aimed at increasing the distance between terminal SHDSL devices and at establishing links without rate loss.

Continuing development of the SHDSL technology offers another way of applying modems: modems may function as built-in system interface for digital video cameras. This not only provides the camera with high-speed interface – up to 15 Mbit/s – but also ensures linking of distributed surveillance objects without additional equipment.

Modems

The features of modern SHDSL interface provided the possibility to create a family of modems of peak capacity, suitable for use with various equipment: computers and routers featuring Ethernet interfaces, serial synchronous and asynchronous interfaces, E1 ports.

SG-16 and SG-17 modems may be used to connect industrial automation systems and communication equipment: telephone stations, subscriber set-off systems. High reliability, stability of operation and simplicity of adjustment and control make Sigrand modems suitable for the most important tasks: to connect ATMs, to link bank branches to providers, to assist armed forces.

The SG-16 family includes internal, desktop and rack-mountable SHDSL modems with the maximum linear rate of 6016 kbit/s over single pair. The SG-16 family is comprised of modems, multiplexers, routers.

SHDSL modems of the new SG-17 family are rack-mountable and are characterized by improved distance characteristics. Moreover, the modems are capable of supplying power to the line to feed SG-17 regenerators. The maximum linear rate of the SG-17+ modification is 14080 kbit/s over single pair. SG-17R may serve the basis for complicated solutions that provide multiplexing of E1, 2*E1, 4*E1 streams and routing of IP traffic. Operation in two- and four-wire lines is supported. Various combinations of SHDSL, E1, Ethernet, FXO/FXS (VoIP) interfaces is possible.

We elaborated a special edition of SG-17+ SHDSL modems. Apart from unique linear interface with the maximum rate of 15296 kbit/s over single pair, another advantage of the modems is compact size. These modems may be used open-frame as part of different devices. The modems may as well be manufactured in the SG-17B desktop design or in special case to be mounted on a DIN lath.  On the basis of the modem a plug-in user interface may be set up for the IP-camera manufacture of which is expected in 2009.

Multiplexer

Due to peak capacity of the linear interface Sigrand multiplexers are capable of transmitting multipurpose traffic without loss of quality of the services. For instance, almost 4 Mbit is left free in the pass band when transmitting E1 streams over SG-16BG modem-multiplexer designed for simultaneous transmission of IP-traffic over Ethernet channel. The SG-16G2 multiplexer transmits two E1 channels simultaneously over single pair. Using SG-16BS it is possible to revive FrameRelay lines that were actively built in the last decade.

Due to constant rate increase of the linear SHDSL interface the Sigrand multiplexers provide new opportunities for multiplexing the number of interfaces transmitted over single pair. The SG-16 family includes desktop and rack multiplexers with maximum linear rate of 6016 kbit/s over single pair. This helps to simultaneously multiplex two E1 streams and to transmit Ethernet IP-traffic through SHDSL interface. The SG-17 family includes modular rack multiplexers that support installation of different functional modules: Ethernet, SHDSL, E1, RS232. The SG-17R multifunctional platform, which features 4 extension slots, may form the basis for these multiplexers. Installation of several multichannel SHDSL modules helps to set up the operation over one-, two- and three-pass links. Maximum rate in the line reaches 14080 kbit/s over single pair. This allows transmitting up to 6 E1 streams over one pair. In the multiplexing mode when using multi-pair link, the surplus of the bands of E1 streams is aggregated into one logical channel for Ethernet transporting. SG-17 multiplexers feature built-in SHDSL monitoring in accordance with the G.991.2 standard and support SNMP: MIB-II, HDSL2-SHDSL-LINE-MIB.

Regenerators

The majority of SHDSL regenerators on the market today do not support rates over 2.3 Mbit/s which significantly limits the possibilities of the G.SHDSL.bis standard (up to 5.7 Mbit/s). The SG-17E regenerators increase the distance of operation of SG-MR-17Н SHDSL modems in the rate range 128 to 14080 kbit/s over single pair. Up to 8 regenerators powered remotely may be installed on single line. This helps to transmit two E1 streams and an additional IP-traffic simultaneously over Ethernet through one pair of the 1x4x0,9 telephone cable over 40 km. The regenerators are manufactured both in regular and protective cases for heavy conditions.

Routers

SG-16R and SG-17R routers are designed as top flexible devices of corporate and operator classes that allow to choose the best solution to establish internetwork cooperation with high security level and convenient administration.

The SG-16 family includes desktop and rack routers with one or two SHDSL interfaces with maximum rate of 6016 kbit/s over single pair. The router allows additional installation of up to 2 extension modules. SG-17 family includes modular rack routers, which support installation of different functional modules: Ethernet (incl. GBIC), SHDSL, E1, RS232, WiFi, FXO/FXS. The SG-17R multifunctional platform, which features 4 extension slots, may form the basis for these routers.

The equipment is designed for linking to Internet, transmitting E1 streams, establishing link among Ethernet networks, including Wi-Fi networks, setting up VoIP gateways and firewalls. Furthermore, the devices may operate in bridge and multiplexer modes, router functions off. Apart from extended functions, the devices may feature different combinations of linear and system interfaces. It is thus possible to increase the carrying capacity of the SHDSL interface in the number of pairs between two objects or to establish a multi-channel access node for multiple distributed objects.  In the minimal configuration the device is a universal Ethernet router. On the basis of this equipment it is also possible to build simple interface converters, VoIP gateways with single-type or combined FXO/FXS ports, and access servers or various capacities for further linking up controlled equipment through RS232 ports. SG-17 routers feature built-in SHDSL monitoring in accordance with the G.991.2 standard and support SNMP: MIB-II, HDSL2-SHDSL-LINE-MIB. For reasons of security a VPN-tunnel may be established, IPSec protocol used. The routers use GNU/Linux 2.6, which allows the users to alter the number of services under the GNU GPL license.

Modems of dedicated application

At your technical request we can design modems of various functional purposes and different constructs. Our custom designs are successfully applied in minerals industry and for the needs of the Ministry of Defense. Among such devices we should single out SG-16 ISA/PC104 SHDSL modems that operate within automatic process control system controllers, and compact case-free SG-16BM SHDSL modem, which is analogous to SG-16 B modem. SG-16BM is used in deep-operating vehicles. The latest development is SG-17Ps modem, which features peak rate of 15296 kbit/s over single pair, and due to its compact size may be designed in different configurations. For example, the case-free modem with 30x200 mm boards is used for deep-earth video recording in wells. Another variant of this modem – 100x70 mm – is used either case-free, or in compact cases for desktop use, or in DIN lath case in the bodies of different devices, telecommutation closets, racks, etc. Moreover, the on the basis of the very modem we developed a plug-in module of user interface for IPCam Sigrand IP-camera. The size of this modem modification is 30x80 mm. This modification allows linking the camera either over Ethernet or over SHDSL interfaces depending on remoteness of the surveillance object. Even compacter size is achieved by integration of the camera and the modem on the level of MII interface.

IP video cameras

Today the market of IP-cameras is growing much faster than that of the analog cameras. Just like IP-telephony or IP-TV, the ratio of IP-cameras is expected to be constantly growing.

When establishing IP-surveillance system on enterprises the biggest advantage is that it is possible to use the existing Ethernet network to transmit video. Digitized video transmitted by means of TCP/IP is not exposed to any distortion dependent on the distance from the video camera to system operator and recorder. Recording already digitized video does not demand as high recorder capacity, as recording and digitizing the complete video stream immediately on the recording machine does.

The cables for analog video are usually thicker, which hinders cable laying and requires setting up extra cable channels. Besides, analog signal is sensitive to interfering signals caused particularly by high-voltage wiring, electric motors of ventilating and climatic equipment, etc. This requires certain additional conditions to be observed when laying signal cables as well as elevates both complexity and cost of the project.

The main obstacle to extensive use of digital video cameras is still the price. Thus video surveillance is still not spread enough Russian market of security systems.

The proposed Ipcam-20* Sigrand IP-cameras are price-compatible with analog cameras, while their quality is compared to that of expensive IP-cameras. At the same time Ipcam-20* features the basic advantages of video cameras: high resolution – up to 720x576 (H.264) and 1600x1200 (MJPEG), day-night mode, efficient compression of information, off-line recording on microSD flash, compact size. Moreover, Ipcam-20* may be linked over great distance without any extra equipment using built-in SHDSL modem, which operates at the rate of 15296 kbit/s over single pair. Plug-in Ethernet and SHDSL user interfaces provide power to the camera using PoE or PoDSL. The camera operates under GNU/Linux, which gives a great number of adjustment possibilities and guarantees access security.
